Hate Crime Reporting Centre

Hate crime has no place in our communities. Everyone has the right to feel safe and we all have a responsibility to stand against hatred and discrimination.

MSV is an approved Hate Crime Reporting Centre, which means you can speak to us instead of the police. Our Community Safety Team has been trained to help support victims, submit police reports, help to prevent escalation and better understand Hate Crime and Hate Behaviour in our communities.

You can contact us 24 hours a day to report any incidents in strict confidence on 0161 226 4211. Our Community Safety Team will respond to you within one working day and will provide updates and support. If a crime is taking place or someone is in immediate danger, please call 999.

We take a zero-tolerance approach to behaviour motivated by hate

Crime or behaviour which is motivated by hatred or a particular prejudice towards an individual’s race, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, perceived disability or any other characteristic, is particularly harmful and affects the security of individuals and communities.

Hate crimes can include:

  • Threatening behaviour
  • Assault
  • Robbery
  • Damage to property
  • Inciting others to commit hate crimes
  • Harassment

Hate crime can have a significant impact on those experiencing it. Being targeted because of personal characteristics or perceived characteristics often leaves people feeling vulnerable by affecting self-confidence and health, and it can leave individuals feeling isolated.

It can also affect personal freedom; with people changing when they leave their house, their route home or to work, their appearance, behaviour, and even where they live. This is unacceptable. Everyone has the right to live their life free from fear of attack or abuse because of who they are.

Read our Hate Behaviour Policy which has recently been reviewed and updated by MSV's Anti-Racism Taskforce (A.R.T).
