Ensuring that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms fitted in your property are working properly, and maintained annually, could help save your home and the lives of you and your family.
As part of the annual gas service, one of our engineers will check the operation of your smoke & carbon monoxide detectors. They will service detectors and replace any faulty units.
It is your responsibility to carry out ‘push button’ tests on the detectors fitted in your property. This includes checking the batteries regularly, replacing it when necessary, and never remove it for other purposes. MSV will repair or replace any alarm which is found to be faulty during the tenancy, this will be done as soon as reasonably practicable.
If you do not have a gas supply to your property, you will receive a letter from us asking you to make contact to arrange the annual service of your smoke detectors. Please ensure that you make contact.
On average, 50,000 fires in the home are reported yearly, killing nearly 500 people and injuring over 11,000. Many of these could have been prevented if people had an early warning and were able to get out in time. As a minimum, smoke alarms are required on every storey of your property where there is a room used wholly or partly as living accommodation.
Each year, over 50 people die in the UK as a direct result of exposure to carbon monoxide gas. You cannot detect the presence of CO gas in your home without a carbon monoxide detector because it has no smell, taste or colour. Alarms are required in any room used wholly or partly as living accommodation where a where boiler, gas fire or other fixed combustion appliance is present (excluding gas cookers).
