MSV pledges to make the alleyways and pathways safe and pleasant for kids and elderly in Moss Side
Working alongside community volunteers, tenants and neighbourhood teams from Arawak Walton, One Manchester and Manchester City Council. Raf El-Bouaeshi and Oliver Hunt – both Neighbourhood Officers for the Neighbourhood Central Team at MSV, led the campaign to spruce up and improve four main sites in the Moss Side area as part of the Keep Britain Tidy; 2023 Big Bag Challenge.
MSV pledged to remove as much litter as possible from the streets and alleyways of Moss side and removed approx. 35-40 bags of litter and filled two large skips in areas where fly-tipping is of real concern to residents. Since 2020, Greater Manchester councils have seen 93,629 fly-tipping incidents with reported spending around £4 million a year to remove litter and fly-tipped waste from public spaces.
A team led by MSV’s Neighbourhood Manager Jennifer Robertson, visited homes to speak directly to locals and survey opinions on the types of services they’d like to see implemented and their thoughts and ideas of how, together, we can best improve local areas. Responses so far have been great and MSV is in the process of establishing an Environmental Task Force of tenants and community representatives to better understand concerns, provide a voice to the community, and work towards helping to address the environmental issues raised.
MSV is seeking participation from tenants and community members, please contact neighbourhoodcentral@msvhousing.co.uk for more details on how to get involved in the Moss Side Environmental Task Force.
